Baby Proofing Checklist This useful Baby Proofing Checklist includes a series of household precautions and recommendations that will help make any house safer and more convenient for children. It will be very helpful for parents whose baby just begins to crawl.

  1. Kitchen.
    • Make sure your child cannot reach cleaners and washing materials.
    • Make sure every electrical outlet in the kitchen room has a special plug that protects your child from electrical shock.
    • Keep matches, cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays and inflammable materials out of your baby’s reach. Also make sure there is a fire extinguisher in your kitchen (for fireplace).
    • Make sure your baby cannot reach medicines and alcoholic beverages.
    • Use high cupboards to store kitchen glassware out of your child’s reach.
    • Never let your baby pick up sharp, tiny and poisonous objects.
    • Use only prescribed ingredients to cook your baby’s food. Avoid using hot tap water for cooking.
    • Never let your baby hold and eat hot meals.
    • Lock bins and cabinets in the kitchen area (for cabinets).
    • Install latches on lower cabinet doors in the kitchen room.
  2. Living Room.

    • Make sure windows are locked so that your baby can’t fall outside.
    • Remove any cords from drapes and blinds that your child can reach (to avoid strangulation).
    • Secure and lock all furniture in the living room so that your baby can’t pull anything over on himself/herself.
  3. Bedroom.
    • Avoid using pillows in the crib until your baby gets at least one year old.
    • Make sure every electrical outlet in the bedroom has a special plug that protects your child from electrical shock.
    • Keep scarves, belts, ties, small jewelry, perfumes, and polishing materials out of your child’s reach.
    • Make sure closets can be opened both from the inside and outside to avoid getting locked in.
    • Always remove a bib from the baby’s month when he/she gets asleep.
    • Keep button batteries, cords and other components of small gadgets and computer devices out of your baby’s reach.
    • Never lock your child in the bedroom! Remember that constant supervision is one of the proofing basics.
  4. Bathroom.
    • Make sure every electrical outlet in the bathroom has a special plug that protects your child from electrical shock. Also never keep electrical appliances plugged in near water.
    • Be very attentive when using bathtub water. Never run only the hot or cold water.
    • Keep razor blades, medicines, cosmetics, and toothpaste out of the baby’s reach.
    • Never leave your baby sitting alone in the bathtub.
    • Keep the bathroom door closed when you don’t bath your baby. Install a latch and make sure the baby can’t open the door.
    • Never leave and lock your child in the bathroom!
  5. Baby Proofing Tips.
    • Use plastic caps and plugs to hide electric outlets.
    • Try to hide any cords from curtains and blinds behind furniture.
    • Install window guards and always keep windows closed.
    • Keep your house clean. Use a vacuum cleaner and mop to clean floors. Remove any small objectives that can attract your child’s attention.
    • Make sure furniture items are fixed and repaired.
