Fitness checklist:

  • Set your personal goals. Remember that you should state your goal not like just a wish (“I wish to get in shape and lose excess weight”), but like specific and measurable objective (“I want to drop from xx centimeters waist to xx” or “I want to lose x kilos of my weight”).
  • Be optimistic, but also realistic while setting your goals. Necessarily get a consultation with your doctor to find out the optimal solution and get clear on your medical contra-indication.
  • When you have your goals identified it is right time to identify the type of activities that can help you in reaching your targets. If you want to get in basically good shape and lose some excess weight, then you may need to perform some aerobic exercises, and if you want to grow muscles then probably you should go to athletic gym.
  • Find out which fitness clubs are available in your location; visit them to check the available equipment and facilities. The best variant is a big fitness center with the whole spectrum of available services, from swimming pool to gyms of different types.
  • Select the best one club reasoning from the time you need to get there, services available, testimonials of customers, etc; learn and optimize your schedule to know when you have spare time to visit the trainings.
  • Buy a suitable subscription that will allow you to maintain your schedule. Make clear what services are covered with your subscription, what are the terms of extension and termination.
  • Get a conversation with local instructor. Explain the trainer your aims and goals, get the consultation, and agree with him/her your objectives and ways to reach them.
  • Inform the fitness instructor about your medical contra-indication, ensure that he/she understands what do they mean in practice, and if he/she can really deal with them. Clarify which restrictions are peculiar to your condition.
  • If everything is ok then you need to get assigned to individual plan matching your specifics and requirements; this plan may include special diet, schedule of trainings, specific program of exercises, and your personal milestones.
  • Sometimes diet is not included into the plan, and if it is so, you need to clarify this question additionally because balanced nutrition is extremely important.
  • Make sure you have all appropriate sport clothes and footwear. Buy special sport bottle and take a small towel with you to wipe your face from sweat.
  • Ideally you need to perform your work-outs under attentive supervision of individual fitness trainer who will motivate and control your activities, so you can be sure that you do everything just right. If your type of trainings enables possibility of personal instructor, then jump at the chance even in spite of higher costs (don’t economize in the prejudice of your health!).
  • While doing your work-outs you need to keep your journal where you should record which exercises you do to make sure that you follow the plan correctly. Also this will help you to connect effort and outcome.
  • Clarify with your instructor on how you can combine your exercises, for example can you go to swimming pool after the main work-out, or can you go to session of yoga on days when you are not assigned to usual trainings.
  • Make sure you can go to the gym regularly, and you are absolutely committed to the process.
  • Focus on your goals and swear that you will overcome all barriers and won’t stop until your goals are reached.
  • Make sure of proper motivation, do not perceive your workouts like some kind of ungracious duty, but like something you should appreciate and enjoy, like a privilege making you better each time (stronger, healthier, more slender). 
  • Make sure that you are ready to hold up the prescribed diet, because if you cannot follow it, this can frustrate your results.
