  TESTIMONIALS
"...This is an excellent program. I'm so glad that I stumbled on to this when researching for task management programs. Very low learning curv, quite flexible, and the price is right. Tried at least 20 other programs, either too complicated, too expensive, or poor documentation..."

Flood checklist

All Travel Checklists

Intense storms, rains and hurricanes can result in destructive floods. A flash flood may occur in a short time, wiping off the face of the earth. Usually before a less sudden flood, people generally have enough time to make all the things required for preparation and safety. The given below flood checklist will help you get prepared to a flood and mitigate risks.

  • Mitigating potential damages before the flood.
  • The goal of this checklist: to help you make and follow an action plan to diminish damages that can be made by the flood. Follow the steps below:
    • Obtain a professional assessment of your property for high-risk zones and areas.
    • Consider installing wet and dry proofing and barriers to protect your property and get better flood control. Wet proofing allows flood waters to enter your house, but it minimizes damages to the interior. Dry proofing allows preventing waters from entering your house.
    • Obtain and install warning systems to notify you and others in your house of a potential danger.
    • Obtaining some equipment and appliances that can be vital for safety. Consider purchasing a generator, dehumidifiers, and fans for outdoor use only.
    • Create a emergency plan and make sure all of the property's occupants read the plan and are informed of safety procedures.
  • Flood preparation checklist.
  • The goal of this checklist: to help you ensure proper protection for your property before the flood occurs (when the it is imminent):
    • Make sure you have all necessary materials for creating barriers (like sandbags). Try to design a prevention plan for their strategic placement around your property.
    • Relocate your furniture in a safe place (e.g. in the roof space).
    • Stock up on clean water and food. Obtain all other necessities (like warm clothes and fuel). Note: usually before the flood local government publishes and distributes Flood Supply Lists and maps which include all the necessities you will need during the flood. You can use these guidelines to get prepared for the flood.
    • Listen to the radio and TV that transmit alarms, news, and current level of elevation.
    • Make sure all important documents and equipment are wrapped in water-proof packages and placed in a 'flood safe' area.
  • Flood restoration and recovery checklist.
  • The goal of this checklist: to help you prevent further damages to your property after the flood occurs and mitigate some risks before recovery professionals arrive. Follow the steps below:
    • Contact recovery professionals as soon as possible.
    • Contact your insurance provider as soon as possible.
    • Disconnect all cables and appliances in your house, as well as turn off the main electric power, water, and natural gas supply (if you have not already done so).
    • For your safety, keep electric, gas and water switched off until restoration professionals inspect your property and these systems for damages.
    • Assess the extent of damages to the interior and exterior of your property. If possible, make detailed notes and photograph damages – this will help your insurance provider and restoration professionals to investigate and document all damages for insurance claim purposes. If you cannot access the damages, it's better to wait for the safety team to declare the damages structurally.
    • Remove standing water from the interior of your property. If you have a dehumidifier, you can connect it to a generator to dry out the property.
