Process Modeling Preparation:

  • Determine the purpose (objective) of process modeling:
    • Documentation of an existing process;
    • Inventing a new process;
    • Improving efficiency and quality of an existing process;
  • Engaging business analysts and managers who are capable of modeling;
  • Defining suitable modeling approach:
    • Activity-based: a process is modeled as a sequence of actions or steps;
    • Artifacts-based: a process is expressed as a sequence of statuses;

  • If possible apply Six Sigma method to manage quality of your business processes:
    • DMAIC (utilized for existing business processes);
    • DMADV (the method for creating new processes);
  • Document each of process steps and links between them (express what is done on every step in a business process), because the overall scenario can be difficult to envision without comments;
